Bloodstock South Africa (BSA), the sales arm of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association (TBA), is hosting its annual National Two-Year-Old Sale in August this year at the TBA Sales Complex in Gosforth Park, Johannesburg. The sale, commencing at 6pm on Thursday 18 August, and again on Friday 19 August from 11am, represents one of South Africa’s oldest and most successful Thoroughbred auctions.
What’s on offer?
With more than 260 two-year-olds on offer, the 2016 National Two-Year-Old Sale has something to suit buyers and spectators alike. Many legendary racehorses started their careers by passing through the BSA’s sales ring and past graduates include the likes of J J the Jet Plane, River Jetez and The Apache.
Visitors are invited to take a tour of the beautifully curated TBA Museum prior to the sale, for a comprehensive history of South African horseracing. The museum’s cinema is a highlight and visitors can watch South Africa’s earliest racing greats, with original film footage of horses such as Hawaii, Colorado King and Sea Cottage. Video titles are updated according to the horse sales seasons, so you can always look forward to something new. It’s a cultural gem that shouldn’t be missed.
Afterwards you can indulge in cappuccinos, a hot dinner or a lazy lunch at the various venues which are open during the sales and situated on the premises, while looking forward to meeting and greeting the two-year-old Thoroughbreds.
